How did I not hear about this? On whim I searched “Harry Potter Box Set” on Amazon.com because I’m interested in replacing my old books (some are hardcover, some are paperback and I’m reorganizing my bookshelves and my HP books just look a mess). I saw a listing for a set all in black with the title, “Special Edition Harry Potter Paperback Box Set.”
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone they are releasing a brand new complete collection with new covers by a new artist, Kazu Kibuishi.
They have released book one’s cover. I found this over at The Leaky Cauldron:
(Edited to add: I stand corrected. A little more digging unearthed 6 of the 7 covers have been revealed. This website does a great job by comparing side by side photos of the old Scholastic books with the new ones. Also, the “extra” Harry Potter books Rowling wrote are are being re-done and re-released. Check it out at Amazon here.)
Don’t get me wrong, the original, iconic covers from Mary GrandPre will always be special (although it took me awhile to warm up to her artistic style). But it’s going to be the 15th anniversary. Time for something a little new, fun, and exciting. I’m excited! And I’m excited to be excited about Harry Potter again!
Release date: August 27th, 2013. Pre-order on Amazon.com and save yourself 40 bucks.
(By the way, I am not planning on throwing out my old Potter books. Each one is wrapped in good memories whether I was with my grandma when I got them or with friends on those release nights. )
